I view my studio practice as an anthropological exercise. My pieces evolve from an archival, indexical effort to examine the power of second hand experience. The resulting archive is then re-interpreted and reformulated primarily through painting, as well as drawing, photography, collage and installation. I am equally concerned with constructing objects made of conceptually significant and psychologically charged materials as with making a compelling image.

These works are part of a series of watercolors depicting sitcom characters from the 1970s and 80s. They highlight the archetypal, quirky characters mythologized through syndication. For me, the medium of watercolor is extremely nostalgic and sentimental. In using this medium in its loosest, most watery form to depict fictional characters, my intent is to examine issues of portrayal vs. portraiture.
